There are women who suffer from trauma during childbirth as well as a few days after giving birth that would be too much for a normal person to handle. Some women may Dramatic or shocking events aren’t the only things that can cause trauma during childbirth. Loss of control or loss of dignity, a hostile attitude from those around them, feeling ignored, or not being told about medical procedures can also cause trauma.

There needs to be a lot of research, and here are some things that can make birth trauma more likely:

  • Help from doctors at a high level
  • Labor that lasts a long time or is very painful
  • Feelings of not being able to handle things
  • Poor pain relief
  • Births by forceps
  • Urgent caesarean section.
  • Induction
  • Problems with customer service or the way employees act
  • Not enough details or explanations
  • being ignored
  • Differences and personal space
  • The safety of babies is a worry.
  • Stillbirth
  • When a baby is born with a disability, it is a scary thing.
  • The baby’s stay in the special care infant unit or the neonatal intensive-care unit
  • Not-the-best care after birth
  • Troubles in the past (for instance, during the early years of childhood, due to a previous childbirth and domestic violence)

Also, people who see their partner have a traumatic birth experience can be affected by it as well.

How birth trauma is different?

People who had a birth trauma usually don’t know whom to ask for help, because even mothers who didn’t have difficult births may not be able to understand what happened. Because they can’t forget what it was like to be born, people with PTSD feel sad and alone. They may also feel less competent than the rest of us because they can’t forget. Because of it, they might feel very embarrassed.

This is a very heavy load to bear. The way PTSD works is that it’s hard to stop thinking about the birth, but not many people know this. Even people who work in health care don’t always know.

But this lack of support could hurt their relationships with their family and friends. Many women are split between wanting more kids and being sure they don’t want any more. Some women also lose all interest in being sexual, which can put a huge strain on relationships.

Women are also told to avoid smear tests and other medical procedures that might remind them of the abuse. Many women worry most about the problems they have every day bonding with their child, who they see as a permanent reminder of the pain they’ve been through.
