Exercise can be the glue in many ways to maintaining a healthy relationship. Rather than make working out be another chore you try to squeeze in your day, use it to solidify your bond with your significant other. Here are five ways you can perk up the sheer joy, romance, bond, commitment, and even support you offer your partner or spouse by simply exercising together.
Spend more quality time
In a healthy relationship both partners value and prioritize the time that is spent together. This becomes difficult to do when life sometimes gets in the way. Our career, the kids, household chores and personal goals, start to take precedence. One way to avoid this is to bring exercise into the home instead of making it an activity you do on your own in the gym. You can still reach your fitness goals and not have to compromise your one-on-one time with your partner.
Spice up the sex appeal
Studies have found that men and women who exercise regularly together develop a healthy relationship sexually speaking. They claim to have better and more frequent sex with their partner. A healthy sex life is an integral part of a relationship because it evokes a chemical bonding experience. Exercise is the cause of this because certain chemicals are also released during physical activity that aid in reducing stress levels, heightening sexual arousal and producing a positive mood response. When you combine all of these while getting hot and sweaty with your partner its no wonder why the energy in the room heats up.
Build on a common interest
You have it easy when both you and your partner enjoy working out because it can become an activity that you enjoy together naturally. Not only is it a way to spend quality time together in a healthy way, but it also enables you to hype up the excitement in the relationship. When you both exercise regularly you can learn to come up with new ideas and challenges to share with each other.
Learn to love yourself
A healthy relationship is not just about your commitment to other person, but also your own self-confidence and self-fulfillment. Your energy can either enhance or negatively affect any relationship. A large contributing factor to your own happiness is how you feel about your body and your health. By exercising with your partner you’re able to have the support system in place to help you achieve your fitness goals as well as accountability and motivation. As you reach your fitness goals your self-confidence will build, which in a healthy relationship will allow you to feel comfortable being your natural self, make you even more attractive to your partner, and help you better fulfill your role as a parent, wife and companion.
Gain the respect of your partner
When you learn to put your health first in your relationship it will only prosper. Exercising together shows your partner that your health is important to both you and your desire to be present for your family. It also can help get your partner’s booty into gear if they’re lagging behind you in their workouts as we talked about in our guest post for MizzFit.com! When they see you wanting to get fit and form a healthy relationship chances are they won’t want to disappoint. That is if their respect for you is where it should be. Making this a habit in your houshold instills family values that lead to a better quality of life with your partner. More fit equates to twice the fun! You get to enjoy more activities together in a healthy relationship since you’re taking better care of yourself.
